• lawyer registered at the Brazilian Bar Association under nr. 11.831, LL.B. from Law School - Federal University of Bahia – UFBA in 1991; and Geographer from University of São Paulo – USP in 1973, and has master degree in Physics Geography from USP, and Ph.D in Public Administration from Universidade Complutense de Madrid (in progress). She has developed professional activities as state employee in State of Bahia, up to January 2008, amongst them: has represented State of Bahia government in Technical Board for Legal Issues of CONAMA (State of Bahia environmental commission) between 2003 and 2007; has coordinated the environmental legislation revision process (environment, biodiversity and water resources) while she was Environmental Policy Officer at Environment and Water Resources Secretary of State of Bahia - SEMARH, between 2003 and 2007. Maria Gravina has performed researches regarding territorial and mapping organization of several areas in State of Bahia and has coordinated projects financed by international development bank relevant to territorial zoning and environmental legislation, in Brazil and abroad, as well as has elaborated essays relevant to communitarian management of the water resources in the semiarid and in the São Francisco river basin (commission for drainage basin). Has several published essays concerning technical and legal aspects about: solid wastes, environmental law, water resources, urban studies, protected zones and territorial zoning.
  Maria Gravina was awarded in the 28th InterAmerican Bar
  Association Conference, from InterAmerican Bar Federation, for her work "Environmental Protection in American Countries”.
